ABOUT US
The Central Texas Paramedic Cycle Team (formerly Austin Paramedic Cycle Team) was founded in late 2006, early 2007 by several Paramedics from Austin-Travis County EMS. The catalyst for its inception was the death of Marble Falls EMS Paramedic, Eric Hanson, who went to Paramedic school at Austin Community College with a couple of the team members. They recognized the need to honor Paramedics and EMT's from their area that were killed in the line of duty. They were all avid cyclists and decided the best way to honor him would be to start a team and participate in the National EMS Memorial Bike Ride in May of 2007. Since that time the faces of the team has changed but their mission remains the same, to ride in honor of those brothers and sisters who have been killed in the line of duty or have died in an untimely manner.
The National EMS Memorial Bike Ride is an approximately 6oo mile bike ride over the span of 6 days during EMS week. Though the start and end locations periodically change, it is always on the East Coast. At the end of the 6 day journey there is a final parade into their end
destination and a final memorial service on Saturday. During the ride the cyclist travel through many of the communities that have had a loss in the previous year. While traveling through these affected communities, they host the cyclists who conduct smaller memorial services for the those EMS agencies. The Central Texas Paramedic Cycle team is just one of many groups and individuals that participate in this event annually and the group is collectively called the Muddy Angels. For more information about the National EMS Memorial Bike Ride please visit their website:
In addition, there is an annual memorial service that is conducted by the National EMS Memorial group and is hosted in Colorado Springs, Co where the EMS is permanently located. The Central Texas Paramedic Cycle Team also participates in this event annually. However, this event is stricly for LODD's (Line of Duty Deaths).
